Information based on the current state of golf in general.

Out of all the people you play golf with, chances are that if you measured all of their 5 irons (including the women) that the overall 5 iron length differential would be 2 inches or less.

The height differences within this group could range from 5' 0" to 6 '6" or more.

This is 18" in overall height deviation for a total range of 2 inches in club length?

Now take that same group of people and measure their Wrist To Floor (WTF) measurement. Shoes on - upright stance - feet slightly apart - arms at your side.

Measure to the hinge position of both wrists and average.

In adults this range could vary from 30 to 40 inches or a 10 inch spread based on currently collected data.

In General

Current OEM 5 irons range from 36 1/2 inch Ladies - 38 1/2 inch Men's or a  2 inch spread.

This 'Standard' range is what is available for a potential 18" height difference?

In the last number of years clubs have continued to get longer due to lighter & stronger shafts.  The size of the golfer has not really changed so how can longer clubs help?

The fitting parameters have not changed.

The relationship of the hands to the lie angle has not changed.

The lie angles (in general) have not changed.

Some companies use a lie angle increments of 1/2 degree, some use 1 degree.

Both companies build to the same length?

Mathematically this condition is not possible.

The math model actually calculates to be less than the 1/2" increment used throughout the industry.

Yes, the potential is there to hit the Long Ball - but it is at the expense of accuracy!

Proper Clubfitting is the single most important step in obtaining a set that is tuned to fit you.

  True Length Technology

Where every club fits

True Length Technology™ is a Proprietary Fitting / Assembly system designed and utilized by Dan's Custom Golf Shop.

Based on a mathematical formula, every club is a calculated relationship of (length and lie) vs. your hands in the address position.

This results in a very consistent and repeatable set-up and improved playability.

Clubs are built to your personal Length and Lie specifications - True Custom Fitting.

Length separation between TLT irons is less than the traditional 1/2 inch increments and is on a progressive - nonlinear scale.

Through several years of research I have formulated, developed and utilized a new

fitting / assembly methodology that will eliminate the age old condition of:

  • 'My long irons are too long and my short irons are too short.'

True Length Technology

Where every club fits

Please review the following True Length Technology™ math calculations.

  • 1 degree of lie angle variation / club
  • 5 iron set at 59 degrees of lie angle

The True Length Technology™ calculations result in a:

  • 39.5 inch 5 iron for the Tall Gentleman (40" WTF)
  • 35.4 inch 5 iron for the petite woman (30" WTF)

The 5 iron length differential is now

  • 4.1 inches (39.5" vs. 35.4)"

                      instead of

  • 2 inches (38 1/2" vs. 36 1/2").

This simply means that the 6' 6" man and the 5 foot lady are now playing clubs:

  • That is now over 4.1 inches difference in length - not 2 inches!
  • Both are now fit to their individual, Optimal Playability Lengths
  • Both are playing clubs that have one consistent hand position that fits them and them alone. All clubs within their set will have the same final hand position.
  • The length and lie combined puts the player in the perfect playing position.

Compare your set to one from the True Length Technology™ concept.

Based on an OEM set of irons, the length difference between your current 3 iron and your current Sand Wedge(from the same set) is generally 3 1/2 - to 4 inches based on 1/2" increments in club length. Now, add in a 45 - 46 inch driver and you can have a 9 - 10 inch spread between your longest and shortest clubs. Hold your current 3 iron and your Sand wedge (from the same set) in their playing positions. Note that the Sand wedge is a minimum 1 to 1 1/2 inches shorter in length than the 3 iron while in the correct lie position. This causes the individual to change their spine tilt & hand position (distance from the ground) for every club.

Traditional lengths cause the individual to:

  • Stand more upright with a driver
  • Drop in position to play the Lob Wedge
  • Or hold the majority of their clubs on incorrect lie angles where the sole of the club not

              on its designed plane

The golfer must learn and have the ability to recall & execute 13 different positions at any given time.

It is impossible to remain in the proper address position due to standard club lengths.

Therefore, your swing plane is constantly changing for every individual club.

If you do maintain a proper address and swing plane then the you are either choking down on the longer clubs or palming the short clubs.

Dan's Custom Golf Shop & True Length Technology™

  • currently charts 10 different length build charts
  • each with 4 combinations / chart
  • resulting in 40 different length combinations available.
  • You will not find this level of custom fitting on any factory floor.
